Malvern Tatenda Chiweshe, Ph.D., MPH, joined the National Alliance for Children’s Grief in June 2026 as Director of Strategic Projects. Most recently, he served as Director of the Societal Experts Action Network at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, where he led efforts to connect scientific expertise with pressing societal challenges.

Malvern brings a uniquely interdisciplinary background to the NACG, with expertise spanning psychology, public health, and research. He has also held postdoctoral fellowships at Rhodes University in South Africa and at the Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom.

Malvern holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Rhodes University, South Africa, as well as a Master of Public Health from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, where he additionally earned Certificates in Adolescent Health and Maternal and Child Health. His research has been published in Feminism & Psychology, the African Journal of Reproductive Health, the Journal of Health Psychology, and several other peer-reviewed journals. He enjoys long hikes across the DMV area.
