Facilitating an Adult Grief Support Group
This 90-minute interactive webinar provides practical, skills-based training for anyone who facilitates — or hopes to facilitate — an adult grief support group. Drawing on the proven model used at The Sharing Place, presenters Dina Petersen and Tracy Seegmiller guide participants through the full arc of facilitating an adult grief group: from pre-meeting preparation to opening the room, managing group dynamics, using activities and conversation starters, and closing with care. Attendees leave with concrete tools, language, and confidence they can apply at their very next group meeting.

Speaker Bio:
Dina Petersen brings more than 23 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and families navigating grief across Utah. As Program Director for Salt Lake County at The Sharing Place, she leads a team of Group Coordinators and partners with the administrative team to strengthen and continuously improve programming. Dina began volunteering in 2003 as a children’s grief support group facilitator and joined staff in 2016 as a Group Coordinator, facilitating school-age and pre-teen groups. In 2019, she became Outreach Education Coordinator, expanding training and support for volunteers and staff and strengthening partnerships with schools, mental health professionals, and community organizations to broaden access to grief resources. Dina regularly presents on childhood grief, sharing practical insight into how children and teens experience loss and how caring adults can respond with empathy, clarity, and confidence. She is committed to increasing community awareness, so no child grieves alone.
Tracy Seegmiller is the Utah County Director at The Sharing Place, where she oversees peer-to-peer grief support for children and trains adult facilitators to lead compassionate, effective groups. With 3.5+ years in this role and more than a decade in child protective services and bereavement care, she brings a grounded, practical perspective to grief support across settings. Tracy facilitates groups for children, teens, and caregiving adults and recruits, trains, and supervises facilitators across Utah County. She serves on the Alpine School District Suicide Prevention Coalition, participates in the Utah Valley Interfaith Association, and contributes to the NACG Sibling Grief Workgroup. Previously, she was a Bereavement Coordinator at Intermountain Health Care and a Program Manager with the Utah Division of Child and Family Services. She holds a B.S. in Sociology (minors in Business Marketing and Psychology) from Southern Utah University and has presented statewide.
